Roady For Roadies
On Friday March 20, we're inviting YOU to come walk the fantastic 16km Coast to Coast from Onehunga to downtown Auckland. It's all to raise money for roadies and crew who are in trouble and need vital support. It's not a race, it’s a walk!
The Roady for Roadies walk was founded by music industry bright sparks Morgan Donoghue & Brent Eccles to raise funds to support roadies in need through the work of MusicHelps.
Roadies and production crew are the often unseen but essential backbone of the live music events that we all enjoy. These roles can take their toll on those involved and while the shows are the obvious highlight, life in live music can be a very hand-to-mouth existence. When illness, injury, distress and hardship strike, life can become very hard, very quickly.
The proceeds from the Roady for Roadies walk will support the work of MusicHelps, a unique kiwi charity that provides tailored online, on the phone and in person professional counselling support for roadies experiencing distress and wellbeing issues. The charity also provides emergency financial assistance packages to live production people and their families who are suffering with illness, injury and hardship.
HOW TO TAKE PART
Buy a ticket and join with us on the day!
There are three different price levels and participants can purchase which ever one suits their pocket.
- $25 (I’d like to help out)
- $50 (I’d like to give a bit more)
- $100 (my boss is paying)
The walk begins at Horns Reserve in Onehunga and will end at The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork adjacent to Spark Arena, where refreshments will be provided. Love Police ATM have designed an amazing T-Shirt and they will be giving every participant walker a T-Shirt at the finish line.
The walk will be monitored by a volunteer crew, medic, a chemist and a mixologist. So buy yourself some new walking shoes and put your hand in your pocket for this worthy cause in aid of the often unsung heroes of the NZ music business!
If you would like to support a colleague who is walking, or simply make a donation to MusicHelps, you can do so via the Roady For Roadies Give a Little page here.
Spread the word via social media!
Post your best black t-shirt images and roady stories and share these with your colleagues, friends and fans on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Please use the hashtag #roadyforroadies, tag @MusicHelpsNZ and include the donate link: https://givealittle.co.nz/donate/cause/roady-for-roadies
“Its so good to see the unknown foot soldiers of our Industry being acknowledged and offered help while they are alive rather than once they are in their graves.”
Greg Peacocke – Oceania Productions
It’s great to see someone thinking about the hard working crews that are responsible for making the behind the scenes stuff happen! Lets show these dedicated kind, friendly and talented professionals that we care... get out and roadie peeps... maybe bring something with wheels to push, like a baby stroller with your future roadies in it to show your support!
Chris Tate – College Hill Productions
All it takes is someone to lead the way, fly a flag, and others will follow. This initiative “Roady for Roadies” could be a glue for our people who do it tough, the guys that are always there for us, dedicated and committed.
Ben Cooper – Spotlight Systems
“A Roadie fundraiser is a great idea for a great cause. To have a charity dedicated to supporting anyone in need past, present and future is great for our industry.”
Rick Te Wini – Kiwi Krew
